Historic Resource Survey & InventoryOur architectural historians work in the field and archives to identify, record, and contextualize historic buildings, structures, landscapes, and traditional cultural properties (TCPs). We have experience and expertise in urban, suburban, and rural environments, as well as industrial settings and historic infrastructure. Project sizes range from single structures to neighborhood and town surveys.

Visual Impact AssessmentWhen construction projects introduce new elements to the landscape, we are well versed in documenting and evaluating visual impacts to historic properties. For telecommunications projects (cell towers and collocations) we document existing conditions, assess impact, and produce the required FCC Form 620 or 621. For large projects, such as wind farms and electrical transmission towers, in addition to field survey we conduct geospatial analysis to produce viewshed simulations and assess project alternatives.

State and National Register of Historic Places NominationsWe bring together a multidisciplinary team to research, evaluate, and nominate buildings, structures, and districts for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and State Registers of Historic Places. These services include documenting buildings, industrial facilities, bridges and dams, and historic coastal improvements such as cribbing, sea walls, and piers. For historic districts we record and evaluate contributing and non-contributing resources, and delineate district boundaries based on historic development and modern preservation.

Historic American Building Survey / Engineering Record / Landscapes Survey (HABS / HAER / HALS) Documentation
For Federal and State projects that require HABS / HAER / HALS level recording we assemble a team of professionals to produce the required written history, measured drawings, and large-format photography of the building or structure. These records provide a permanent archive, mitigating the loss of destruction by natural disaster or demolition
